Shopify Design Case Study - 20% Lower Bounce Rate
A homepage redesign for a Shopify red light therapy brand, executed using owner-provided copy and imagery within a clearly defined brief. The focus was on improving first impression, clearer hierarchy, and a more effective entry point into the store.
Project Overview
Narlest is a red light therapy brand with a clear product focus and a defined audience. This Shopify store redesign case study focuses on a homepage that was functional but not performing as well as it should. Visitors were arriving at the store and leaving quickly, and the opening experience was not building enough confidence or engagement to encourage them to explore further.
We were brought in to redesign the homepage experience, working within a closely defined brief provided by the owner. All copy and imagery were supplied, and the design direction was clearly specified. Our role was to take those inputs and translate them into a cleaner, more effective homepage that reduced bounce rate and created a stronger path into the store.
The Challenge
The Narlest homepage needed to do more from the very first screen. Visitors were landing on the page and leaving without engaging, which indicated the opening experience was not creating enough immediate confidence or interest to hold them.
- The first impression was not communicating the brand and product clearly enough within the first few seconds
- The page hierarchy was unclear, making it difficult for visitors to know where to go next
- The product presentation did not feel sufficiently intentional or conversion-aware
- The overall layout was not guiding visitors forward into the store effectively
The Brief
This project was executed within a clearly defined owner-provided brief. All key copy and imagery were supplied by the owner, and the design and messaging direction was explicitly specified in advance. This shaped the nature of the work from the start.
Our role was not to develop a new creative direction, but to execute precisely within the provided framework:
- All headline and body copy was provided by the owner
- All images and visual assets were supplied by the owner
- Specific structural and visual requirements were defined before work began
- The brief required careful, accurate execution within fixed constraints
Working within tight owner-defined constraints is a different kind of discipline. It requires precision, attention to detail, and the ability to find clarity and effectiveness within a fixed creative framework. The quality of the outcome depends on how well the provided inputs are structured, sequenced, and presented.
What We Improved
Stronger first impression
The above-the-fold section was structured to communicate the brand and product clearly within the first few seconds. Hierarchy and visual weight were used to direct visitor attention immediately to what matters most.
Clearer homepage hierarchy
The page flow was reorganized so each section leads logically to the next. Visitors always have a clear sense of where they are and what to do next, reducing confusion and early exit.
More effective layout flow
Sections were sequenced to follow a natural visitor journey from awareness through to action. The landing experience was designed to reduce early drop-off and keep visitors moving forward.
Better visual balance
The owner-provided imagery was placed and sized to create a balanced, intentional presentation throughout the page. Visual weight was used to support the hierarchy rather than compete with it.
More focused entry point into the store
The redesigned homepage acts as a cleaner, more intentional funnel into the product range. Each section has a single clear purpose, keeping the visitor oriented and moving toward the store rather than bouncing away from it.
The Redesigned Homepage
This ecommerce store redesign before and after shows a homepage rebuilt to lead with a clear first impression, stronger visual hierarchy, and a more intentional layout from the first screen.
Mobile View
The Shopify mobile experience redesign was built with mobile visitors in mind throughout. The redesigned mobile experience presents the brand clearly, leads with strong visuals, and guides visitors into the store from the first screen.
The Results
Measured post-launch against the same period before the redesign went live.
Fewer visitors leaving without engaging
Down from 65% before the redesign
Focused execution delivering measurable improvement
In Summary
This was a focused homepage redesign executed within a clearly defined owner-provided brief. The copy, imagery, and design direction were all specified by the owner. Our role was to take those inputs and translate them into a cleaner, more structured, and more effective landing experience.
- A stronger first impression reduced early exit and gave visitors a reason to stay
- Clearer hierarchy made it easier for visitors to understand the page and move forward
- Better layout flow reduced confusion and created a more natural path into the store
- Precise execution within the owner's brief produced a measurable outcome: bounce rate dropped from 65% to 52%
- The redesigned homepage now works as an effective entry point rather than a barrier
